Q: How did the Explorer group get started?

A: John C Cobb, son of John W Cobb formed the organization in 1981.  John C. Cobb decided to try and start an Explorer post at the Adams Fire  Department, so John sent out letters to some of the surrounding teens. At the first meeting they held, over 40 teenagers showed up. After a few meetings and as time went on only around ten teenagers stayed the course and became the start of one of the strongest and finest Explorer posts in Jefferson County, that is still up and running to this day.
